Hey, what’s up guys, Sam Taggart is here with the knock life. I’m going to teach you how to really have this non-negotiable mentality. Don’t quit. No failure. There is no giving up. Now, we’ve all heard someone say, I’m a quitter. I want to teach you to sit, I don’t quit and I don’t give up. There’s a whole other level to this that I think you are ready to tap into. So, in this video, I’m going to go over some key components on how to avoid failure, how to avoid quitting, how to avoid kind of giving up, and how to practice these non-negotiable tactics.
Limit Screens
I want to give some other hacks on kind of eliminating this distraction or this outside pull to deviate your focus. Because emotionally resilient people are focused. So, you know, check emails once a day, check social media, maybe a maximum of twice a day in the morning and evening, you don’t have to always reply to a DM or comment right away. Don’t scroll through media while you’re in the grind. Like, don’t be like, oh cool. I have just been watching a bunch of funny animal videos or whatever you watch, um, limit your TV and Netflix, like I just made it a priority not to have to get into like crazy binge-media things. And when people were like, oh, did you see that game or Thrones episode? I’m like, Nope, never seen Game of Thrones. So you know, it, it’s not that it’s bad. It’s maybe it’s something that you enjoy. It’s just limited. Don’t just be like, oh, I spent like fricking five hours binging on this message.
Don’t Get Lost In Messages
Then you have, to don’t get lost in emails and messages. A lot of times you get sucked into the junk mail and cramming up your day. Don’t open up every single one of your emails. Just delete like 90% of them and only open the important ones and only do that once a day. Do not get sucked into other messages either. Tell people when you’re available to drop in or answer. You will have employees, teams, family, whatever, and they’re always coming to you for your attention. It’s not their fault that they don’t know when you’re available and when you’re not. So, just be like, Hey, the best time to contact me is like between these certain times. Like, whatever that time is for you. Then be like, other than that, don’t expect me to reply. Just so you know, I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just in my zone and working during these certain times.
If you called LeBron James, while he’s in the middle of playing basketball, he’s probably not going to get back to you. If I’m in the middle of playing my game, I cannot get back to you. So, it’s important that your friends and family know, that you are committed to your mission. You appreciate them and their time, but you need to set a boundary and say hey, these are the times that I’m available. Don’t be afraid to schedule callbacks either.ย You can say, hey, I am not available right now, but in two, three weeks, or such and such a day, we can meet up. So a lot of times people are like, Hey, can I get a meeting with you? And I’m like, yeah, I’m available in a month. And they’re like, oh, really? But, it’s like, if it is really important to you, you’ll probably hit me up in a month or schedule something with me. It’s my way of saying, my schedule is important, If this thing is important to you, show me that it’s important to you and I’ll take your time, but it’s in a month.
Don’t Die By “Gotta Minute?”
You know, a lot of times reps will call you or, you know, somebody calls you, oh my gosh, I have this problem, this customer and da. And you’re just like, I have to drop everything in my life and I have to fix this fire right now versus, Hey, you can wait till Monday. They can wait till tomorrow. They can wait for three days. And it’s nobody is going to die and practicing of awareness of, wow, this triggered an emotion, cause it may be a bad thing, but it didn’t necessarily change my actions. I get to control my actions. So, another one is don’t be sucked into the “Do you got a minute?” So, when you’re in an office scenario and or business or whatever, and you’ve got employees that just always are knocking on your door and this is like one of my biggest problems. I like to work at home a lot of times because, if I’m in the office, everybody wants my time. And so, death by “Gotta minute?” Those minutes turn into 30 minutes and those 30 minutes turn into five of those a day. By the end of the day, you’re like, wow, now I have to work on my stuff. I wanted to work on this stuff today, but here I am at 7, 8, 9 o’clock at night, ’cause I’m the business owner and I’ve got to get things done. They don’t see that. They think whatever they’re working on is the highest priority. It is important that you get engaged with your employees. It’s just scheduling time, showing them how to properly bring things to you, you know, allowing and empowering them, delegating training, things like that. It’s gonna help you.
Don’t Answer Calls
The next one is like telemarketers. Like I don’t answer calls to people. I don’t know. I am just like, if it’s that important leave a voicemail or if it’s that important, you will probably text me. And if you’re a freaking auto-dial, you’re not gonna text me. So, I’m happy. But, if you do not know who it is, do not answer the phone. It is a waste of your time. There are other things you can accomplish in those 5 min.ย
Block Out Your Time
The next one is to block out your time. This is a big one. The keen focus is you have to say, okay, I have a time block for my focus and creator time. There’s creator time and then there’s busy time. That’s when you’re working on emails, fires, things like that. But, it’s like this, in my mornings I don’t show up to the office until nine because I’m working usually from like eight to nine on me, time maker, time writer, time, podcast, time, time for me to say, I enjoy getting this kind of stuff done. That is my time block for me. After nine I will jump into the craziness. Sometimes I show up at 11 and my employees are like, Hey, how come you came in late today? I was like, do you think I wasn’t working? And they’re like, no, we know you work hard. Dang it. Okay, we’ll shut up. I just found that having my time is so critical and it helps me balance mental elements. Otherwise, you get mentally drained and you mentally kind of feel exhausted when everybody’s taking your time. You don’t get your time, so create alone time and create relationship time, and focus on the relationships that matter most. That present time with meaningful relationships matters and a lot more than you think. But, the problem is is you can’t prioritize every single relationship and it’s okay to have acquaintances. It’s okay to have okay. Relationships with people that don’t really serve you long term. Finding those meaningful ones like family, or your partner or, you know, some of your employees, certain clients, and certain networking clients that are going to help elevate you, mental performance coaches, consultants, and just people that are in your corner.
Be Intentional
The next thing is be intentional with your eating, your writing, your conversation, and how present you are in each thing you do. You know, I was trying to make this a joke, but like I was putting down this, I never lift up the toilet seat and somebody brought that in my attention. Like, can you please just lift up the toilet seat when you pee? And I was like, it’s just been so emotionally ingrained. Like, I’ve done it one way my whole life. I don’t lift the toilet seat. Don’t hate me for this. It’s so funny because, I’ve never brought an awareness, an intention to, when I go pee, I just do it and I just pee. So, just recently they brought that to my attention. I’m like, okay, I’m about to pee. What is my ritual of peeing? I do lift up the toilet suit now and it’s something I’m working on, but it’s like, I just did things so subconsciously that it, like, it wasn’t even aware of it. I didn’t even know I did it. So often we do things without thinking because we do them all the time. For example, eating. We eat and a little later it is like, wow, I just pounded a whole hamburger. Like, that’s just a habit. So, if you can be conscious of your actions, it will bring real emotional resilience. Bringing consciousness to your breath, bringing consciousness to your posture will impact other things in your daily life and how productivity. Make it a habit to check in with yourself, you’re breathing, you’re awake, you’re alive. You get a breath in and out of your mouth every freaking second. So pay attention to it. I know that sounds crazy and so simple, but I promise that awareness and practice of focus is going to help move the needle to becoming much more emotional resilience and objective versus so subjective.
