Leave Comfort
Most of you live comfortably, but you want to get to the edge. Here’s where the edge is and once you get here, it’s uncomfortable. Alright, everybody stand up. I’m going to do something that is quite interesting. Okay, everybody go touch your toes. Stand up, straight legs, and touch your toes. Okay, raise your hand if you can touch your toes. You can? Damn, that was so good. Raise your hand if you can’t. I am sure someone can’t. Sweet. Come on up here. Okay, you can’t quite touch your toes. I’m not flexible either, dude. Like, what the freak? Alright, I have a quick trick I am going to show you. So, just to show everyone, no bouncing, straight legs, and bend down to touch your toes. You are so close. But, I am sure your legs are hurting, they are tight, and you just can’t push any further. Right? I kill your legs.
Gain Momentum
So, my friend Justin taught me this cool trick. I am going to have you show everyone. I’m going to do it with you because I can’t touch my toes either. So, what we are going to do is a 360. We are going to hurry and spin a full 360 and then bend down as far as you can and see how close you can get to your toes. Alright, spin, spin, spin, spin. Okay, now touch your toes. Oh my gosh! You just went beyond the edge! You touched your toes and you went beyond the edge of comfort. Isn’t that the craziest thing? It’s magic, isn’t it? Like, I bet I can dunk a basketball right now. Okay, wait, hold on, now what is going on? That was wild. The back of our hamstrings are what is it telling my brain when I feel like I can’t go any further. Like, that’s what stops my legs. And I am over here like ow, ow, ow, stop! All that is coming from the nervous system. Our nervous system is telling us- “oh, you’re maybe one day going to kind of hurt, so you should stop.” But, do you think that’s the truth? It’s not. Does that make sense?
Find Someone To Push You
So, let me help you. Do you trust me? Okay, Ben, touch your toes. Okay? We’re going to help him a little bit. I am pushing him down and he is going further than he was on his own. Isn’t that interesting, how much farther you could go? It’s just a little help. Okay, so is everyone seeing what I am saying? What I’m getting at is that we need to get out of our comfort, try something new, gain momentum, and don’t be afraid of pushing ourselves. You might be surprised by what happens. It was uncomfortable when I pushed down on you a little bit to try and touch your toes, I am sure it was.ย Heck yeah. He was over there like ow, ow. But, now that I was pushing him, he just hit a whole nother limit. And it was a limit he didn’t even think he could hit. So, then the next time you do it you’re like oh, okay, I already know I can push this far. So, I have this friend, Tom. He is preparing for an Iron Man race. I asked Tom yesterday, what are you most scared of when it comes to the iron man? Like, of all the 3, what makes you the most nervous? He’s like, the swim because I’ve never swam before. Right? So, out of the three things- bike, swim, and run, right? I was like why aren’t you scared of the run? What was his answer? “Cause I’ve already run a marathon.” Does that make sense? You have got to push your limits and get yourself further than before. Have other people push you and get where you want to go. That momentum will keep motivating you and the next thing you know, you will be touching your toes and feeling like you can dunk
